Matthew Ryan

Matt Ryan therapistMatthew Ryan,

B Psych (Hons), MA (Marriage & Family Therapy).

Matthew Ryan is a senior psychologist who has been supporting and assisting people to work through their personal and relational problems, for over 25 years.

Matt is particularly skilled in helping couples to sort through the issues and dysfunctional patterns that prevent them from enjoying their relationship to the full.

He believes that the vast majority of troubled marriages and families can be assisted to regain the openness, joy and flow that are the hallmarks of healthy relationships.

Matt understands that what keeps most people in marriages and families ’stuck’, is their great difficulty in seeing their own participation in the problems that plague them. Most people tend to blame each other for their unhappiness, which is only natural, but it is this tendency of blame and counter-blame that often keeps the relationship ‘stuck’.

As a sex therapist, Matthew has a gentle, sensitive and caring manner. He has found that utilising a combination of Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, is particularly beneficial for his clients. This may include training in using meditation to advantage in everyday life.

Matt helps clients with a wide range of issues impacting on their sex life, such as identifying and dealing with barriers to intimacy, as well as helping people recovering from an affair, with the challenges of midlife, and gender questioning.

During his spare time Matt enjoys surfing, kayaking and cycling.
